Wafting Fragrance of Hops

Dom Perignon White Gold

Dom Perignon White Gold

On a recent wilderness photography hike I kept getting wafts of an odd scent. Was the mysterious odor in my clothes, or hat? After a few hours a light went on as I recognized the smell as beer. That was odd, because I don’t drink beer.

Big Sur Road Closed: Viaduct at Rocky Creek Long Term Solution (2011)

While the vehicle closure of our Big Sur road at Rocky Creek / Bixby Creek may be lifted this weekend, here’s a couple of related things you might appreciate.

Coyote Curious

Coyote Curious

1. The slide at Rocky Creek occurred because the road at the specific location was built on dirt – not rock. There is bedrock on both sides of the slide, but not surprisingly the slide occurred on the dirt section.

2. One Fully loaded truck trip can do as much damage to Highway One as almost 10,000 cars trips.

Big Sur Road Closed at Palo Colorado and at Bixby Bridge (Spring 2011)

Cloud over Rocky Creek

Cloud over Rocky Creek

Update June 9, 2011: Highway 1 through Big Sur is open all the way from Carmel to San Luis Obisbo. Alder creek slide is cleared.

Update April 15: Cal-Trans said at least one lane at Rocky Cr. / Bixby Cr. could be open by April 25th. Unfortunately, Alder Creek (South Coast) slid again and is closed, but N-F is open. Walking across at Rocky Creek, they are not too strict about time. You have a few minutes leeway if you are late. (But if you are on time its really fun to see so many more friends :-)

David wins an International Photography Competition

I thought you might enjoy this with me. Especially since it was put on by a Science magazine (NewScientist) in England and the theme was light. (I think it won because of my explanation even more than the delight of the image.)
Eye Light
Here’s the page announcing my image that won  a Photography Contest in London yesterday — http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/culturelab/2011/01/december-2010-photo-competition-winner-light.html

I realize the judging art is entirely subjective, nevertheless — I’m thrilled.

My Poems in Lights at London’s Trafalgar Square

Three of my poems were displayed at the London Design Festival in Trafalgar Square by the 8 Laser drawing robots of the Outrace Project (click below to see videos):

1. “We do not fall in love, but we can fall in lust. We only grow in love.”

2. Love is proportional to the amount of time we spend with someone.
” This provides the equation (L=Tw2), which means “Love equals Time — times the Speed of Wonder squared.”

3. Good art is burned into your mind, but Great Art Ignites you to Create
.”
